AGM The Cricket Club AGM will take place on Tuesday 28 February commencing at 8.00pm .  The meeting will be in the tea hut down the ground followed by a curry in Pangbourne.  All members welcome, even if only for the curry. Pre-Season Nets Indoor Cricket Nets have been booked for Monday evenings at Bradfield Sports Centre.  The first net is Monday 13 March between 8.15pm and 9.15pm and the last on Monday 10 April .   Cost this year will be £5 per session; colts and students free.   We’ve got 2 nets every evening so there’ll be lots of opportunity to bat and bowl.  Thereby ensuring that you pull and strain every muscle you haven’t used in the last 5months and can’t move for two days after.  Post-net recovery will be in the Elephant in Pangbourne.   First match is home to Bradfield on Sunday 16 April.   Pre-Season Work Parties Work parties will take place on the weekends of Sat 1 /Sun 2 April and Sat 8 / Sun 9 ...

A fine last-over victory over our friends at Greys Green this evening wraps up a successful season for the club.  We scheduled 40 fixtures and the results split as follows: 13 wins.   2 (!) ties.   1 draw (of the winning kind). 10 losses.   3 weather-related cancellations.   4 cancelled by us.   7 cancelled by the opposition. As anyone who's ever snapped a few pictures with their phone will know, composing a well balanced picture is harder than it looks.  Here's a few done by Jim Donohue , a WCC alumni who was in town recently. I think it's from the Highmoor match and features two representatives each from the Williams and Chapman clans. Jim hopes to use one or two for his upcoming Pangbourne and Whitchurch book. Part One: Between The Wars It has been suggested to me that the residents of Whitchurch might be interested to read a short account of the history of Whitchurch Cricket Club as I remember it. I was born at Underwood in Hardwick Road in 1918. Any story to be told must also include impressions of some of its more active and colourful members. In writing this I have no wish to appear anything but affectionate and loyal to those who have created a lasting tradition. The ground was acquired by my father, A.R. Whitelock, in 1921. Originally it had been a lush meadow, seemingly much enjoyed by a pedigree herd of Mr Aldridge's ruminating cows, but at the time no longer required for their use. It will be appreciated that in 1921 the country had hardly recovered from the awful consequences of the 1st World War. The Cricket Club, though theoretically in existence, had no ground and no equipment. ...
