Completely Bug***ed After 30 minutes!

What went after - which was excellent cricket by Whitchurch – was completely wasted after both the Strokemaker’s openers were dropped early on, allowing them to put on a soul-destroying partnership of 100 in just 12 overs. After the initial onslaught, Mark Burton, Matt Kilford and the skipper took regular wickets, which had the desired effect of reducing the scoring rate, but still left Whitchurch chasing a daunting 214 in 30 overs.   Unfortunately, needing 7 an over, the chase never got off the ground with only Harry Williams and the skipper reaching 30.  Whitchurch eventually limped to 121 for 9 in their 30 overs, losing by 93 runs. Lyn ps. Nick's three catches can't go unmentioned though - how often are fielding jugs needed!?  [Ed.]

Waxlow Sweet Chariots

A near perfect batting display saw Whitchurch chase down 204 for 3 wickets in 32 overs, with Nick Hill posting an impressive 93. Waxlow batted well setting a strong total, with Matt Kilford being the pick of the Whitchurch bowling, supported well by some excellent fielding from the skipper and Paul Vaughan :((.  But ultimately Whitchurch’s batting carried the day. Low and Slow

In a low scoring game against Pangbourne, Whitchurch’s slow bowling undoubtedly made the difference.  With boundaries hard to find on a big ground with a wet grassy outfield Whitchurch were indebted to Andy Mutepfa for his patience and application in accumulating 66*, to post a competitive 126 for 5. In reply, tight bowling from Whitchurch ensured that Pangbourne had the same problem in scoring runs and that they were soon behind the required run rate.  Thereafter a leggie master class from Matt Kilford , slowing the run rate down even further and taking two important, top order wickets in two balls, ensured that Pangbourne were never going to amass the necessary runs. Whitchurch eventually ran out winners by 20 runs. Lyn

Lashings Cancelled, with much Regret

This received earlier this evening from Tim Close: "Regrettably, I am writing to inform you that we have been forced to cancel this event. On behalf of the Village Green Committee, I would like to express our sincere apologies for any inconvenience this may cause. Lashings has a minimum number of corporate VIP seats that must be confirmed as being sold before they will attend. As it stands today, we are significantly below the amount required and with only 10 days remaining to the event we have been forced to take this decision." Tim

What A Difference A Day Makes!!

Having been unable to stay at the crease for more than one ball on the Saturday (a platinum duck!!) Nick Hill again proved to be a safe source of runs on Sunday with an unbeaten 99*.  With able assistance from Harry (49), John Staker (42*) and Paul Vaughan (26), Whitchurch posted a formidable 239 for 2 in their 35 overs. After tea the spin triplets (it’s like spin twins but there’s three of them!!) – Mark, Matt and ‘Poppa’ Dom – kept the scoring under control and, in conjunction with taking regular wickets, ensured that Whitchurch eventually ran out comfortable winners by 80 runs. Defeat by Hetairoi

Some good late-order batting from Hetairoi put them in a strong position with 215, despite a good catch from Dominic. However despite an improved performance with the bat from Whitchurch, and a good 60 from Paul Holland, we never really threatened their score getting 150-ish in reply.
