Boot Camp attendees Nick Turner and John Stalker underlined the successful introduction of this US-driven idea for dealing with middle-aged delinquency by both playing starring roles in Whitchurch’s first game of the season. Lower Earley couldn’t lay a bat on anything Nick bowled in his spell of 8 overs, playing a major part in restricting their eventual total to 195. Thereafter John was the only person with the bat who looked comfortable against the Lower Earley attack, making sure with his 58 that Whitchurch reached the respectable score of 165 and (most importantly) keeping the game alive until the pub opened. Care in the Community doesn’t seem to be working with Lyn who continues to run out anybody who is unfortunate enough to have to bat with him.
